How to Prepare for your Energy Audit Prior to the audit provide the following information to us
Identify areas of concern (drafty spaces, moisture problems, hot & cold spots)
Provide copies of your utility bill for the past 12 months (electric & heating fuel)
Number, type and location of heating & cooling system(s) (basement, crawl, attic)
Identify ease of accessibility to basement, crawl, attic (i.e. stairs, access panel, access opening size, will a ladder be needed to access)
Report if household has any non venting gas appliances (i.e non vented gas fireplace, wall mounted gas/propane room heater)
Report if house has any known vermiculite or asbestos insulation present
The day of the audit, ensure your house is setup (as described below) and be prepared to provide the following information to better diagnose your home condition
Auditor will need access to all areas of the house (basement, crawl space, attic, garage, all interior living spaces) please ensure accessibility.
Windows locked with clear approach & accessibility
Gas Dryers empty of clothing
Gas Stoves/ ovens – empty / burners clear of obstructions (pots/pans/foil)
Wood burning fireplaces completely cleaned out (no wood or ashes present)
Inform the auditor of any known moisture issues (basement, crawl, bathrooms, exterior, attic, other)
